The Lenovo IdeaPad L340 is an excellent mid-range laptop that falls between a comprehensive gaming machine and a long-lasting workplace notebook. Gaming laptops have a horrible image for being large and unwieldy throughout the years, but none of that applies to the IdeaPad L340. That is why it’s one of the gaming features on the market with an i7 CPU as well as the best laptop inside.

The best feature is the inexpensive pricing. Lenovo has refined the V155’s chassis and packed cheap, but game-ready components inside the 15-inch shell. As a result, the IdeaPad L340 Gaming costs less than 800 Euros (US$872). Of course, no high-end gaming is available here.

In addition to the multiple workplace gadgets, Lenovo provides IdeaPad notebooks with a relatively powerful graphics card, resulting in a suitable gaming laptop for less than 800 Euros ($872). Many games should run nicely on an Intel Core i5-9300H and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650, although contemporary blockbusters will require lower graphical settings.

Cheap gaming laptops are available from various makers, which is why we evaluate the IdeaPad L340 Gaming in our review to equivalent machines from the competition. We went with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502DU, the Asus TUF FX505DT-EB73, and the HP Omen 15-dc1020ng for this. We’ve also included the identically equipped 17-inch IdeaPad L340-17IRH. Other laptops from our collection can also be added to each table for comparison.

Decent appearance

The Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming’s case is comprised of plastic with a smooth surface that resembles the illusion of brushed material. The craftsmanship is excellent, as well as the margins are clean and even. Because of the weight of the base, the lid may be lifted with one hand. Furthermore, the opening angle of the screen is 180°, and the screen is bordered by small bezels. The sole flaw is the high susceptibility to fingerprints, which is notably noticeable on the top side of the lid.

The IdeaPad L340-15IRH Sports is among the lightest tablets in our test field, weighing 2.1 kg (4.6 lb). However, the dimensions indicate a medium size, putting the Lenovo laptop between both the HP Omen 15 and the Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502DU.

The IdeaPad L340-15IRH Gaming only has the most essential ports, which are all on the left side of the laptop. Lenovo also lacks a memory card reader and a Thunderbolt port; in exchange, there is a USB Type-C port with the 3.0 standard. It cannot, however, be utilized to power the laptop.

The Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH Gaming includes a Gigabit Ethernet connector as well as a Wi-Fi module that supports 802.11 a, b, g, n, and ac standards. However, because of the absence of 2×2 MIMO transceivers, transmission rates are not as fast as on devices like the HP Omen 15. Aside from the mentioned previously antenna technology, the L340’s transfer rates remain modest at 290 Mb/s for collecting information and 309 Mb/s for transmitting data.

The IdeaPad L340-15IRH comes with only the gaming laptop and the associated power adapter out of the box. The manufacturer’s website sells additional peripherals including USB Type-C charging stations, carrying a bag, external input devices, and more.

A 3-cell 45WHr charger powers the IdeaPad L340. And, to put it mildly, the battery capacity is superb for a laptop of this quality. Even with intensive workloads, you’ll have to have at least 5 hours of battery time out of this monster, and that’s with the CPU boosted to its maximum clock speed of 4.5GHz.

After removing all of the fasteners on the base plate, the Lenovo IdeaPad L340’s bottom cover may be removed. Users will obtain access to memory in this manner, which in our evaluation device comprises 8 GB incorporated into the sole RAM slot. The SSD may also be changed, and the fans are readily available for cleaning. In theory, there should be enough room within the case for a 2.5-inch SATA disc, but we couldn’t discover a similar port on the board.

The keyboard of the IdeaPad L340 has a short travel distance and a distinct pressure point. The fingertips have an excellent grip on the surface when writing, but the up – and – down keys are quite small in comparison to another keys. In addition to a full-featured numeric keypad, the Lenovo laptop has monochrome keyboard illumination, which in our review model glows blue. The lighting is consistent and adjustable in two levels.

Ideal pad

With the IdeaPad L340-15IRH Gaming, Lenovo has chosen a ClickPad as a mouse substitute. This rests a little loosely in its frame, causing rattling noises when used. The pointer buttons only respond to significant pressure on the pad’s bottom corners. Furthermore, the surface provides very persistent resistance to the fingertips, making mouse cursor navigation slightly challenging.

The IdeaPad L340 Gaming’s screen is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a specification of 1920×1080 pixels. On average, the brightness is in the middle of the chosen comparison devices, at 253 cd/m2. The same is true for the 83% brightness distribution. According to the measurements, the Lenovo laptop’s display starts to blink at a brightness setting of less than 20% and at a very specific rate of 25,910 Hz. Because this number is so high, even users with delicate eyes should have no trouble utilising the L340-15IRH Gaming.

Buyers can get the IdeaPad L340-15IRH Playing computer games with a TN screen in addition to the one seen below. It also has a 1920×1080 pixel resolution, according to the datasheet.

To begin with, the idea that you can acquire a tiny notebook with a six-core CPU, computer GPU, 16GB of fast DDR4 RAM, 512GB NVME SSD, and a 1TB HDD for less than $1500 is incredible. And because this laptop has been out for almost a year, you’ll discover even greater bargains on used marketplaces.
